Bioeconomy Economics Conference 2026

September 28-30, 2026

Passau, Germany

The Bioeconomy Economics Conference 2026 took place from September 28 to 30, 2026, at the University of Passau. The conference focused on how the transition towards a sustainable and circular bioeconomy is transforming economic systems, production structures, and policy frameworks. Discussions addressed both the potential of the bioeconomy for climate mitigation, resource efficiency, and the development of new value chains, as well as questions of justice, governance, and potential trade-offs. The conference aimed to strengthen international exchange on the economic and social dimensions of the bioeconomy.

Tim Becker contributed a presentation on the formation of markets for engineered bamboo construction materials. Under the title “The geography of green market formation: Insights from the engineered bamboo construction market,” he presented current research findings.

As part of the conference, Tim Becker also participated in a workshop for a Special Issue of the journal Ecological Economics entitled “The bioeconomy: a post-fossil economy in the making?” During the workshop, participants discussed each other’s papers. The intensive exchange provided valuable feedback and important insights for further developing the paper.
