Giessen, Germany
On 1 July 2026, Dr. Sebastian Losacker successfully gave his habilitation lecture at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen under the title “‘Left-behind places’ – between regional inequality and resentment”. With his lecture, he demonstrated his academic expertise in geography and highlighted perspectives that extend beyond the focus areas of his previous research.
The lecture was part of the habilitation procedure, which also includes the publication of his habilitation thesis entitled “The spatial dimension of innovation and socio-technical change: insights from economic geography”. The thesis explores geographical perspectives on innovation and socio-technical change. It focuses on the emergence, spatial embeddedness, and impacts of innovation processes, particularly in the context of the bioeconomy and the related transformation processes. The habilitation thesis is available here: The spatial dimension of innovation and socio-technical change: insights from economic geography
Later this year, Sebastian Losacker will deliver his inaugural lecture, thereby completing the habilitation procedure.
We warmly congratulate him on this significant milestone in his academic career and wish him continued success in the years ahead!
