Research stay at the Joint Research Centre

October 20 - November 14, 2025

Seville, Spain

From mid-October to mid-November 2025, Tim Becker completed a one-month research stay at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in Seville.

The JRC serves as the scientific service of the European Commission, providing independent, evidence-based research to support European policy-making. The Seville site is a central hub for technology-, innovation-, environmental- and economics-related topics, particularly in the fields of industrial policy, innovation systems, and regional development. It plays a key role in shaping European strategies for digital transformation, sustainable innovation, structural change, and Smart Specialisation.

During his stay, Tim Becker collaborated on a research project focusing on innovation in the bioeconomy. The project centred on analysing regional innovation activities in the field of biotechnology, based on patent data. The collaboration will continue beyond the research stay, including plans for joint publications.
