On-line

In the first episode of the new podcast series by the Verband für Geographie an deutschsprachigen Hochschulen und Forschungseinrichtungen (VGDH)  Dr. Lukas Kriesch and Sebastian Schmidt discuss "What Use Is Artificial Intelligence to Geography?". The podcast can be listened to here.

The two experts explore the new research opportunities enabled by AI methods, for example in remote sensing, image and text analysis, and the extraction of unstructured spatial data. They discuss not only the potentials but also the possible limitations and risks, ranging from insufficient training data and algorithmic biases to black-box models and data protection issues.

The podcast "Was bewegt die Geographie?" covers current debates in the field and highlights why interdisciplinary thinking across natural and social sciences is particularly important today. New episodes will be released monthly.
